Hong Kong Wetland Park

Opened to the public in 2006 in the northern part of Tin Shui Wai, the New Territories, the Hong Kong Wetland Park is a world class, multi award-winning conservation, education and tourism facility. It offers ecological mitigation functions to compensate the wetlands lost due to Tin Shui Wai New Town development, as well as providing conservation, education, recreation and tourism opportunities.

It offers ecological mitigation functions to compensate the wetlands lost due to Tin Shui Wai New Town development, as well as providing conservation, education, recreation and tourism opportunities.
A 60-hectare wetland reserve is created within the park, contributing to the wetland habitats of Deep Bay. The Wetland Discovery Centre located in the Wetland Reserve provides opportunities for visitors to discover and learn about a wide range of wetland habitats through facilities such as Stream Walk, Succession Walk and Bird Hides.
The freshwater marshes provide abundant food and a variety of habitats for wildlife, maintaining the biodiversity of the reserve.
The rippling sound of cascades at the Entry Plaza refreshes the visitor before they enter the Wetland Park, creating the sense of arrival and transition from the adjacent town areas.
Education is infused with the element of fun throughout the park. By answering questions about wetland ecology, visitors can find their way through the lush Eco-Maze and reach the scenic green roof of the Visitors’ Centre.
Some Virgina Creeper (<i>Parthenocissus tricuspidate</i>) covers a wall near Pui Pui’s Home adjacent to the Visitors Centre creating a vertical green wall.
The no-barrier design with large flat stepping stones across the stream allows visitors to closely explore the stream and the aquatic life within.
The forest-like trails offer a tranquil getaway to leave the hustle and bustle of everyday life.
The artificial waterfall at the Stream Walk provides a water source for the stream winding through the Stream Walk.
The Stream Walk leads through the forested land and introduces the characteristics of different ecosystems of the stream.
The natural environment of the Wetland Park creates a stark contrast to the urban setting behind, forming a picturesque scene of an urban oasis.
The Wildside Walk consists of a winding boardwalk meandering through ponds and the Butterfly Garden.
Blossoming Lotus Lillies (<i>Nymphaea</i> ‘Sunfire’) spread across the water surface and add colour and vibrancy to the Freshwater Marshes, creating a very pleasant and relaxing ambience.
