Victoria Peak Garden and Mount Austin Playground

The Victoria Peak Garden covers an area of about 1.8 hectares, roughly divided into three zones based on the topography. The three zones are linked by a wooded, meandering footpath. Following the footpath, visitors can appreciate the beauty of classical gazebos in the Victorian style, manicured and green lawns with blooming flowers and overlook the Victoria Harbour in the lookout pavilion at the end of the stroll. The garden, designed in a traditional English Garden style, makes it a popular location for wedding photography. The nearby Mount Austin Playground is also designed in a western style with an extensive lawn area and contemporary children’s play structures.

The ‘dolphin blue’ gazebo in Victorian style is the centerpiece of the colourful display gardens.
Views of the row of tall trees, the spacious green terrace and plantings of different colourful plants are framed by the lattice grille and columns of the gazebo, forming a picturesque scene.
The central, formal gardens are laid out in strict geometrical arrangements and are surrounded by the less formal spaces of the open lawns, woodland areas and meandering paths.
The two viewing platforms of Victoria Peak Garden are linked by a wooded, meandering footpath. The classical gazebos, woodland, lawns, flower beds and meandering paths inspire visitors to further explore the landscape.
A cluster of Hydrangea (<em>Hydrangea macrophylla</em>) blushes with warmth and beauty, enriching the landscape of the grassy lawns and the Peak Trail.
Strolling to the end of a garden path, visitors are rewarded with spectacular views of Hong Kong Island South, the South China Sea, Lamma Island and beyond.
Nearby Victoria Peak Garden and a short stroll form the Peak Lookout is the Mount Austin Playground. At the entry of the playground visitors are greeted with a formal courtyard and pavilion built in the classic style. The courtyard is centered around an ornamental fountain and defined by plinths and urns.
Set within a large lawn surrounded by trees, this classical styled gazebo is the focus of the playground. The style and mix of exotic and native plant species is reminiscent of the Victorian Era.

The Victoria Peak Garden was laid out at the beginning of the 20<sup>th</sup> Century and was the private garden of the Governor’s Mountain Lodge (since demolished). They were designed in classical European style of the time. These ornate Gazebos reflect this classical Victorian style, incorporating wrought iron lattice work and a curved dome roof.
