Tuen Mun Park

Tuen Mun Park covers an area of about 12.5 hectares, comprising of a 1 hectare artificial lake and a wide range of facilities including The Reptile House, roller-skating rink, amphitheatre, inclusive children’s playgrounds, etc. The park is a lush green haven with about 1,500 trees and 100,000 shrubs of about 200 various species, offering a peaceful and passive recreational space for the community.

The Water Cascade at the centre of the park is a 190-metre long spectacular stone water feature with two footbridges bringing the sound of the splashing water to the surrounding environment.
Footbridges at different levels provide unique experiences for appreciating the water cascade. The bridge at the lower level provides an immersive environment where visitors can sense the smell and motion of the moving water, whilst the bridge on the upper level provides a view overlooking the entire water feature.
The Artificial Lake is bordered by a meandering path with seating provided under the shade trees, offering a comfortable place for enjoyment of the tranquillity.
The intertwining footpath is lined with different forms of trees and shrubs in raised planters. A combination of shrubs and trees such as <em>Terminalia mantaly</em>, contributes a variety of colour, texture, and sizes in the landscape scenery.
Ample trees shade offers some respite from the summer sun.
Being one of the major parks in the New Territories, Tuen Mun Park offers an extensive peaceful breathing space in the city. The trees and the pond provides the residents with pleasant views of the landscape.
The presence of water features helps reduces stress, contributing to a better sense of well-being.
The calm and still water of the man-made lake mirrors the surrounding area and sky.
The park provides habitat and sanctuary for animals like birds and turtles, enriching the regional biodiversity.
Waterscapes are essential in the urban fabric as they play an important role beyond adding aesthetic value. The presence of a controlled water body increases biodiversity and reduces the risk of flooding. They also provide an open and leisure space for recreation and community.
Stairs in the Model Boat Pool enable users to get close to the wateredge and enjoy playing with their model boats.
The mature and large trees have an extensive root system, creating a sculptural effect in the lawn area.
Mature trees with magnificent tree trunks and branches provide eye-pleasing greenery and ample shade in the park.
The design of the children’s playground incorporates two natural elements, water and sand. At the water play area, children can enjoy the fun of playing with water from the flower-shaped splash pads.
A sheltered sitting-out area is provided adjacent to the water play area, offering seating for parents to keep an eye on their children.
The great variety of children’s play spaces makes Tuen Mun Park stand out from the other parks.
The undulating Contour Play Zone has colourful hills that encourage the balancing skills of children.
The first-ever inclusive playground in Hong Kong which incorporated public engagement and children’s participation in design ideas and user experiences was carried out in Tuen Mun Park.
Fun views of the park are formed by voids in the play structure.
Children’s playground comprises of jungle gym, climbing net and slides carpeted with colourful safety matting, engaging children in active play and stimulate imagination and creativity.
Wide and ramped pathways is one of the inclusive designs which enhances the accessibility, function and performance of the landscape, making the park accessible and usable for all visitors.
A board avenue of trees creates appealing scenery which encourages healthy lifestyles like walking or riding a bicycle.
Taking pet birds for a stroll is an age-old Chinese hobby that is still popular amongst the elderly today. Some elderly people would hang the bamboo birdcages on the tree branches and socialise with other bird owners.
The quiet and peaceful environment welcomes the visitors to relax out on the shaded grassy lawn and soak up the sun.
