Sha Tin Park

Sha Tin Park is located at the heart of Sha Tin district and adjacent to the Shing Mun River. The park occupies 8.05 hectares and consists of a number of themed gardens with many varieties of flowers and plants, showcasing spectacular blossoms every season. The two Chinese gardens, namely North Garden and South Garden, provide serene and tranquil landscape spaces incorporating Chinese architectural structures and a variety of ornamental plantings.

The Central Gate with an avenue lined with <em>Bauhinia variegata</em> leads the visitors from the Main Plaza to explore the Chinese gardens within.

Innovative outdoor seating are multi-functional and can act as a bench for sitting and with provision for a tabletop.
Sha Tin Park links closely with the Town Centre and provides open landscape spaces for the enjoyment of nearby residents. Large lawns attract many visitors who take advantage of the space for picnics and other activities.
Meandering paths encourage visitors to wander through enclosed garden areas that offer colourful flowering displays.
A timber trellis with climbing plants provides shade over the walkway in the courtyard and reinforces the tranquility of the space.
The rich diversity of trees and other plants makes the park home to different birds. A Red-whiskered Bulbul is enjoying the fruit on the tree of <em>Ficus benjamina</em>.
The large variety of flowering trees attracts numerous species of butterflies.

The waterfall in the western part of the park appears to feed the lake adjacent to the Moon Pavilion. The waterfall is a key feature of the park and helps cool the surrounding space, provide a pleasant sound of cascading water and a visual focus on the western hill.
Sha Tin Park provides long-range views to Lek Yuen Bridge and the residential areas beyond seen against the green backdrop of the green hills Lion Rock Country Park.

The impressive stepping stone avenue forms a major axis linking the Marriage Registry and the Main Plaza. The stone segments reference traditional Chinese architectural patterns and appear to be floating on the water. It is a popular setting for many wedding photographs.
