Ma Wan Park

Ma Wan Park is a recreational and botanical style park on Ma Wan Island, the New Territories, designed under the themes of nature education, art and love. The park is a non-profit facility operated by Sun Hung Kai Properties and the Hong Kong Government. The Park has various themed gardens and nature paths that showcase many native plants and wildlife. Apart from botanical education, it also boasts some excellent lookout points that offer splendid views of Tsing Ma Bridge, Rambler Channel and surrounding islands.

A decorative art deco arbor lines one of the entry paths to the park. Bougainvillea vines on the arbor provide a spectacular show of purple flowers during Spring.

The arbor is surrounded by attractive, lush planting, including water lilies and Chinese Fan Palms.

Adjacent to the arbor is a timber boardwalk lined with Canary Island Date Palms (<em>Phoenix canariensis</em>). The palms are a unique, attractive feature along this walkway.
Contrast to the background of Tsing Ma Bridge, the Sweet Garden with its flower garden setting and vine-like arbor create an interesting contrast.
A sculpture representing family is placed at the entrance to the garden for artistic appreciation and photography. The sculpture is representative of the beginning of a life’s journey and starts to lead the visitors to a flower-lined path, as though walking through the different stages of life – from infancy to adulthood.
The Sweet Garden borders the main entrance path to the Park.
The pillars of the wrought iron gate in the Sweet Garden are covered by Boston Ivy (<em>Parthenocissus tricuspidata</em>), framing the main entry to the park.
Sculpture of a nautilus shell in Golden Mean Plaza, the main entrance of Ma Wan Park. In addition to its iconic and unique appearance, it also represents the harmony between nature and human creation by reflecting the Golden Ratio (Golden Mean) in its design.
The shaded pathway with rustic wooden fencing and paving leads visitors through natural woodland.
Many bird species inhabit the park including Red-whiskered Bulbul.
A variety of lizards are also found in the park.
A sculpture comprising of two rows of leaning poles at the Hilltop Lookout represents a giant bird ready to take flight and fly high in the sky.
The leaning poles forming the wing point towards the scenic hills and reflect the fan-like pattern of cables of Tsing Ma Bridge.
The seaside tree avenue provides a shaded open space for people to relax and enjoy the promenade and the views of the sea.
The shaded promenade is a popular destination for local and visitors to stroll, sit and relax.
Elevated positions within Ma Wan Park provide spectacular panoramic views of the Tsing Ma Bridge.
