Nan Lian Garden

Nan Lian Garden is located at Diamond Hill, Kowloon. Occupying an area of 3.5 hectares, Nan Lian Garden is a garden built in the Tang Dynasty style with a combination of different landscape elements. The stark contrast between the classical garden and the surrounding high-rise residences in colour and form creates an extraordinary layering of traditional structures, sumptuous nature and modern buildings.

The stark contrast between the classical garden and the surrounding high-rise residences in colour and form creates an extraordinary layering of traditional structures, sumptuous nature and modern buildings.
Undulating layers of green foliage clusters brought by the numerous sculpted Pine trees can be seen throughout the garden, where this type of topiary are seldom found in Hong Kong nowadays. Covered walkways and pavilions are constructed to provide various observation points for different parts of the unique garden.
The Pavilion of Absolute Perfection (“Golden Pavilion”), an octagonal-shaped gold architecture situated at the heart of the Lotus Pond, is the main feature of the garden. The pavilion is connected by two vermillion-coloured bridges named Zi-Wu bridges. The striking colours distinct these structures from the surrounding landscape, establishing the dominant focal point of the garden.
Extensive choice of plants along with a series raised mounds placed tactically among the garden to create colour and seasonal interest as well as forming noise barriers shielding the gardens from the sound of street traffic.
Shelters with benches offer a place for users to rest with a peaceful vista of the garden.
On the eastern end of Blue Pond stands the Pavilion Bridge. The traditional structure functions as a bridge as well as a pavilion for visitors to enjoy the view beyond the pond.
Song Cha Xie (Pine Tea House) located along the shoreline of Blue Pond with a covered walkway above the waters. Visitors can enjoy a panoramic view of the pond and indulge in the serenity and lushness of the landscape.
Rocks and stepping stones are commonly found in Chinese traditional landscape gardens, forming informal footpaths within the landscape.
Contrasting with the still waters of the ponds, the dynamic but gentle splashing waters fall from the Silver Strand Waterfall, creating a water curtain for the vegetarian restaurant “Chi Lin Vegetarian” housed underneath and cools the nearby walkway.
The clear waters in Nan Lian Garden serve as a visual interest to the landscape as well as providing a habitat for birds and other wildlife.
The largest Buddhist Pine in Nan Lian Garden is accompanied by Nian Lian Rock at the back, establishing the focal point for the Lotus Terrace.
