Gist of the Eighth Meeting held on 22 March 2013
- Proposal of Planter Extension at Park Lane and the Tree Support System for OVT LCSD YTM/2
- Members were briefed on the latest progress of the pilot scheme to expand the roadside planters for improving the growing space of aerial roots of three OVTs (YTM/6, YTM/19 and YTM/29) on Park Lane.
- Members accepted the latest design of the supporting structure for a limb of OVT LCSD YTM/2 and suggested that climbing plants be considered for softening the appearance of the steel structure.
- Presentation on "Guidance on Selecting Tree Species for Greening to Minimise Biogenic Volatile Organic Compound (BVOC) Emissions" by Environmental Protection Department (EPD)
- Members considered that the current BVOC study was only at a primordial stage and would be premature to apply findings at this stage.
- Site Visit to OVT LCSD SK/ 3 and SK/4 on Hiram's Highway and a potential OVT at Sha Tsui Playground
- Members agreed that both trees on Hiram's Highway had been showing signs of stress and suggested improvement measures of the growing environment for consideration, including the replacement of existing concrete pavement with suitable porous paving materials.
- Members were impressed by the magnificent form and conditions of a Ficus microcarpa at Sha Tsui Playground and recommended to include it in the OVT Register.
